STANLEY

In 1843, an enterprising businessman named Frederick Trent Stanley started a business in New Britain, Connecticut, to make door bolts and other fittings from wrought iron. Stanley's Bolt Manufactory was just one of dozens of small foundries and other backyard industries in town that struggled to try making metal products. But Stanley had a peculiar spirit of innovation and an unusual passion for getting things right, and his humble business flourished and evolved into what is now Stanley Black & Decker.
