Drilling fluid pumps - powerful pump systems for bentonite and drilling fluids
Bentonite is a globally occurring mineral that is formed by the weathering of volcanic ash and consists mainly of montmorillonite (60-80 %). Other components such as quartz, mica, feldspar, pyrite or calcite influence the properties of the material, depending on the deposit. The thixotropic behaviour of bentonite is particularly characteristic: if it is stirred or moved, it behaves like a liquid - but at rest, its viscosity increases and it becomes solid.
This property makes bentonite an indispensable component of modern drilling fluids. In drilling fluids, bentonite lubricates and cools the cutting tools, protects against corrosion and ensures that no liquids or gases penetrate the borehole thanks to the hydrostatic pressure generated. At the same time, the drilling fluid reliably transports the drill cuttings to the surface.
When the pump is at a standstill, the thixotropic structure prevents the extracted rock material from sinking back into the drill shaft. In addition, bentonite seals the borehole by forming a stable mud cake on the borehole wall. Fine particles penetrate the surrounding soil, swell and solidify - an important prerequisite for the stability of the borehole, depending on the geological conditions.
The drilling fluid pumps from DYNASET have been specially developed for these demanding operating conditions. They are designed to reliably pump highly viscous bentonite fluids, drilling fluids and suspensions - even under difficult geological conditions and in continuous operation. The pumps offer high performance, robust construction and low-maintenance technology, making them ideal for horizontal drilling, well construction, geotechnical drilling and exploratory drilling.
With the drilling fluid pumps from KW Hydraulik, users receive a powerful, reliable and professional pump system that is precisely tailored to the requirements of modern drilling methods.
