SIMEX ART - Asphalt regeneration technology

Simex ART is a patented technology specially developed for the regeneration of bituminous mixes (asphalt) that reuses 100% of the material on site without the need to remove milled material or add other materials. It is installed at a depth of 30 to 100 mm in the functional road surface. Vehicle traffic is not affected and the road is immediately passable. It also ensures a reasonable service life, allowing local authorities to plan road maintenance, which benefits the safety of users.

Step 1: Milling and regeneration

Milling (A) from 30 to 100 mm depth (hydraulically adjustable), depending on the extent of the damage. The milled material is mixed with the regenerating additive (B) and atomised under high pressure using the milling pump (C). The mixed milled material enters the second chamber, where it is crushed to the correct grain size by the crusher drum (D) and mixed further. A screen at the outlet (E) controls the achieved screen width (0-15 mm).

Spraying is controlled by a Simex system that maintains the correct percentage of additive depending on the feed rate determined.

Note: Spraying with water via the integrated spraying system may be necessary (this depends on the type of additive used and the condition and type of asphalt to be regenerated).

Step 2: Mixing

Mixing (F) of the milled material using a milling drum. The chamber of the milling drum is sealed with a special scraper (G). A binding agent (e.g. cement) can be added before this phase. This depends on the type of additive used in phase 1).

Step 3: Compacting

Once regeneration by ART 1000 is complete, compaction takes place (plate or roller). The end result is a 100 per cent regenerated asphalt mix that can be driven on immediately after compaction.

AREAS OF APPLICATION

Simex ART has been specially developed for the functional repair of road surfaces such as

  • Branched or "crocodile skin" cracks
  • bulges, depressions, corrugations
  • Potholes and detachments
  • Localised changes to the surface such as Loss of adhesion and smoothing of aggregates
  • Temporary paving

GOALS

The aim of Simex ART is threefold:

  1. To quickly and effectively repair damage to the road surface without completely disrupting the road network and, above all, without the need to repeatedly carry out emergency repairs.
  2. The cost of purchasing and processing new raw materials is eliminated, as only the bituminous conglomerate available on site is used.
  3. Environmental sustainability: recovery and regeneration of 100% of the material available on site and reduction of traffic on the construction site through the purchase of new materials and the removal of the removed materials.

FUNCTIONAL ADVANTAGES

  • Fast and permanent restoration of surface deterioration, enabling correct planning of interventions.
  • Reduced and dynamic roadworks: no need to work with large machines, significantly reducing the impact on road traffic. Fewer personnel and a single vehicle with the necessary equipment.
  • Economic savings: No costs for the procurement and transport of new raw materials and new aggregates.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES

  • No environmental impact: existing materials are reused and worn asphalt is recycled and refurbished. This process will also be technically repeatable for subsequent maintenance work.
  • Use of environmentally friendly materials.
  • No handling and management of materials or hazardous waste.
